Vision Therapy in the Hamilton Area

Vision Therapy

Does your child take an abnormally long time when doing homework, complain of blurriness and headaches or display of poor reading/writing/spelling ability? What about skipping of lines when reading and expressing clear frustration when doing schoolwork?

If any of these symptoms sound familiar then your child may be in need of vision therapy.

Vision Therapy enables children or even adults to improve their foundation for reading, learning, and sports play. It’s a range of specific and customized activities and exercises which work as a form of neuro-optometric restoration. In other words, vision therapy is akin to physical therapy for the eyes and the brain.

Remember, good vision is extremely important for your child’s success in life. As a responsible parent, YOU have an equally important role to play and make that happen. Schedule an appointment today:

Do you know that our vision therapy programs can help with lazy eyes and crossed eyes, traumatic brain injuries (concussions) and improved sports play?

Lazy Eye & Crossed Eyes

Aside from the social stigma, children and adults with lazy eye read much slower and have poor depth perception. Unfortunately, lazy eye does not always go away on its own, and it can significantly affect a child’s ability to learn and thrive socially in school. If left untreated it can lead to permanent visual problems and poor depth perception. To prevent this and to give your child the best vision possible, amblyopia should be treated early with our tailor-made vision therapy program.

Take your game up a notch

Is your child or teenager blessed with athletic ability? Everyone knows the potential importance of every pitch, goal or basket can have on the scouts or colleges looking for the next best ballplayer. Even 20/20 eyesight, decent eye-hand coordination, and superb coaching are not enough to maintain consistent superior athletic performance during practice or “peak” performances. Sports vision training at Ancaster Family Eyecare in Hamilton uses vision therapy principles that help improve:

  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Depth perception and estimation
  • Reaction times
  • Vision and balance
  • Eye movement and tracking

Whether you have a budding athlete with collegiate or professional aspirations or you are just looking to gain an edge at the weekend recreational hockey game our optometrist, Dr. Priya Maharaj provides you with state-of-the-art sports vision training.

Comprehensive Eye Exam in Hamilton Area

A comprehensive eye exam takes just about an hour of your time, but that hour will have a lasting effect on your eye health. Eye exams gauge so much more than your visual agility or the reliability of your eyeglass prescription. Annual check-ups help prevent sight-threatening diseases such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, eye cancer or cataracts. Do you know eye exams can even offer a glimpse into your overall health! A detailed eye exam can often spot high blood pressure or even diabetes because of how these conditions impact blood vessels in the eyes.

Early detection means early intervention, so schedule a comprehensive eye exam to preserve your vision.

Traumatic Brain Injuries, Concussions

If you’ve suffered a concussion or traumatic brain injury, it is common to develop problems associated with your vision. Vision can be also be compromised as a result of a neurological disorder such as a stroke, a brain tumor or Multiple Sclerosis. These visual issues can severely impact how you or your loved one is able to function on a regular basis.

Our leading neuro optometrist can help you recover from a concussion or traumatic brain injury with a specialized vision therapy program. In fact, you typically gain more from neuro-developmental vision therapy than they do from other therapies, such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, or cognitive therapy, etc.

Pediatric Eye Exams

Like any parent, you want your kids to be healthy so they can grow and thrive. That’s why you likely plan regular appointments with your pediatrician. When it comes to eye exams most parents don’t realize that annual pediatric eye exams should also be part of the annual medical routine. “When should I schedule an eye exam for my child”, is probably the most common question we receive here at Ancaster Family Eyecare. After a preliminary infant comprehensive eye exam at around six months of age, children have additional exams at age 3, just before the first grade¬–at about 5 or 6, and then every two years after that if no vision correction is required. If your child needs eyeglasses then he or she should be examined annually.

At Ancaster Family Eyecare your children are our number one priority. Our on-site doctors will provide your kid with a complete comprehensive eye exam.
